Quartet News

May 2006
VocalWorks has been invited as one of five guest performing groups to the Vaasa Choir Festival in Vaasa, Finland by Erkki Mendelin, producer of the event.  We will be performing numerous times as well as conducting several barbershop singing workshops for the attendees of the event, which runs from May 24-29.  Past performers at this annual international celebration of choral music have included The Kings Singers, The Swingle Singers, Eric Erikson Choir, The Real Group, The Tallis Scholars, in addition to several top-notch Evergreen barbershop quartets.  VocalWorks is proud to continue to help promote the barbershop style in this country that loves to sing.

While in Finland, we will also be performing a number of times in and around Helsinki, accompanied by our host for the trip, Markku Kanervikkoaho.  This portion of our Finland tour will culminate in the Finnish barbershop convention where a new Barbershop Harmony Society international affiliate will be born, Finland's own barbershop singing organization.  VocalWorks will judge the competition and sing for the convention attendees.

The quartet lent our voices as barnyard animals in the magical pasture, such as pigs, goats, and crows.  While some may say this was type-cast, VocalWorks is planning on keeping our day jobs!  This episode aired on Teletoon in Canada on October 20, 2004.

The episode aired on January 8, 2004 in the US on Showtime, and April 9 and 11, 2004 in Canada on Much More Music.  In Canada, see Much More Music and in the US, see Showtime for additional details.
