Totem-Aires Membership

The Totem-Aires is always looking for men who enjoy singing.  We have a place for everyone provided that they can carry a tune; after all, we are a singing organization.  Non-singers are also welcome should a person enjoy the fellowship and camaraderie of a fun loving men's group and/or who may be adept at performing some of the administrative requirements of such a group.  If you have ever thought of singing in your own quartet, there is no better place to find the other three parts but in a Barbershop chorus.  There are always exciting things occurring with the Totem-Aires and we would like YOU to be part of it.

Who Can Join?

Almost all men can be prospective members of the Barbershop Harmony Society.  In Tacoma, a guest, if willing, will be listened to for voice placement upon first visiting and will be given a simple audition once they feel ready to apply for membership.  He need not have much singing experience or be able to read music as there are other methods of learning the music.  Most members are amateur singers with a love of four part harmony who enjoy the company of others with the same interests.  Additionally, we enjoy entertaining various groups in our community and, in so doing, provide support for several beneficial charities both nationally and locally.

How To Join

Show up at one of our rehearsals.  You will be provided with musical scores and can join the chorus to see if you like it.  When you are ready and after having attended at least three rehearsals, you can apply for membership and will be auditioned.

We meet temporarily at Zion Lutheran Church, 3410 6th Avenue in Tacoma, Washington each Tuesday evening at 7:00PM.  It is located about 2 blocks east of Union Avenue.  This map may help you find us.

Sweet Adelines

If you are female, you need not be left out.  We would love to have you visit and observe our rehearsals.  If you would like to get involved singing in the Barbershop style, visit one of our sister choruses in Sweet Adelines International to get that four-part harmony fix you may be craving.
