So,
we call this an inter-chapter visit. Most of the Harmonizers headed
down to Calgary to spend an evening with our hosts - Stampede City
Chorus. What a wonderful bunch! They certainly made us feel welcome,
and the massed chorus is something to hear. Three distinct groups,
or perhaps four. In addition to the chorus, the lunch time types
(Western ReUnion), G.O.L.D., a solid quartet, and of course, BRASS
were all able to give us a sampling of their style.
|
Of course,
the Harmonizers gave a sampling. Perhaps the highlite was the massed chorus
singing Happy Birthday to Howard. (just turned 45 early this month...)
OK, I lied,
he's not really that old.
After a false
start Tuesday, I met up with some of the guys at Tims and went to Calgary
with Jim Wilson. No, we didn't get lost, but we had a lovely tour of the
city of Calgary before arriving at the church. We were looking for Scarboro
Drive, but on our way, struck gold with THREE streets names Scarboro Avenue.
We were So close. The third pass, we went down the hill, and there it
was... Now we're ready for the next visit. Nice Map, Jim)
Stampede
City Chorus are putting on their 47th annual show. With their talent and
that of Vocal Works (from Vancouver), it promises to be a good show. Although
tickets are twenty bucks, most of you will get in on a 2 for 1 seniors
deal, eh? Friday April 5th evening show and Saturday matinee and evening
shows at Lord Beaverbrook High School, 9019 Fairmount Drive S.E., Calgary.

Coming
up in June is the Division Convention (Not just a competition...)
Friday night should be a relaxing gathering to spend time with friends.
Saturday full of competition and an afterglow on into the wee hours.
Sunday brunch at the Lodge is famous throughout Alberta for great
food and plenty of Quartets - all singing a tone or so lower than
usual. While I think of it, a good rule of thumb is not to drink before
your competition - but do catch up afterwards!
How did you like Dave's three ring curcus? |

With all
of the Calgary visitors and the gang from Red Deer, it seems that visitors
out-numbered the Stampede City Chorus. All visitors were certainly made
to feel welcome, weren't we?
