Quartet

            Bel Canto

Bel Canto Quartet, which means “Beautiful Song,” has been together since 2004. We have earned several top-10 placements among Texas and Louisiana quartets at regional competition, including 2nd place in 2005.

Bel Canto Quartet performs a variety of tunes -– swing, up-tempo, ballads, patriotic and jazz -– for any type of occasion such as birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas and Valentine singing telegrams.  If you or your group are looking for some unique entertainment, give us a call as we perform along the I-35 corridor.

Contact Janet Brown at (254) 780-1869 for performance information.

Janet Brown offers the heart and soul to Bel Canto as their lead voice. "My barbershop life began in 1999 as a member of Chisholm Trail Chorus and well…one thing has led to another since then. I bring my marketing and motivational skills from running  golf tournaments and fund-raising events for non-profit organizations to this great group. In addition to singing in a quartet my other time is devoted to serving as Assistant Director to the chorus and being wife to my patient husband, Gary, and mommy to my 2 cats."

Carol Scherer supplies the bass harmony for Bel Canto. Carol has an Associate Degree in Sacred Music from Perkins Theology School from SMU, and uses her musical knowledge as the director of Chisholm Trail Chorus and Music Minister for the First United Methodist Church in Belton, Texas. She has been the bass sound in two multiple award winning quartets over her 20 years in quartets and feels very fortunate to have music in her life each day. Her family is very important to her. She has four grown daughters and two teenage grandchildren that she is very proud to show off -- just ask to see the pictures!

Susie Murphy provides the baritone for Bel Canto.  Susie has been singing in Sweet Adelines for 26 years -- 11 years as a lead and 15 years as a baritone in various choruses, including the Rich-Tones and currently Lone Star Chorus in Fort Worth.  She has had the opportunity to lend her vocal talents to a few quartets and even placed 5th in the 1986 Region 10 competition - but - did not receive a medal because of the low number of quartets that year. 2002 was her first experience to sing Lead in Cross-City Sound in a competition  and they received the Novice Quartet Award.  Susie also serves as the Assistant Director for Lone Star Chorus, is a self- employed legal secretary, loves to be outdoors and spending time with her husband.

Katie McClellan brings her beautiful tenor voice to Bel Canto and Chisholm Trail chorus. She has enjoyed singing a cappella all her life, and has been singing barbershop since 1976. She has performed with many award winning choruses along the way. "I love singing in a quartet that values God-given talent, continually works to improve their skills while at the same time being kind and respectful to each other, and encourages each other to be the best they each can be.  I also enjoy singing hymns and contemporary Christian music, designing and making quilts, and being able to visit my daughters as much as I can."
