Chorus Celebrates 25th Anniversary With November Show Chisholm Trail Chorus invites the public to join them on “A Stellar Journey” when members present familiar and new tunes during their fall show on November 17. The silver anniversary show will be presented at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Cultural Activities Center in Temple. Tickets will be available at the CAC box office and at Precious Memories Florist on South 31st St. in Temple. Chisholm Trail Chorus of Sweet Adelines International was founded in 1982 by area women who enjoy singing four-part, a cappella harmony. The musical form is also known as “barbershop” music, but over the years has expanded its repertoire to include modern arrangements of Broadway, movie and Top-10 hits. Founding member Carol Scherer has remained in the chorus through its 25-year history. She has served as director for the past 10 years. “The wonderful aspect of our organization is that Sweet Adeline choruses exist around the world,” Scherer says. “Our chorus has been fortunate to welcome Sweet Adelines who move here from other places like Anchorage and St. Louis,” she continues. “And over the years, when our members have left the area, they had a chance to join new chorus ‘homes’ in New York, Illinois, Austin and Dallas.” Former members are being contacted to share the stage during the show, which will also include guest performers Darrell Leverkuhn, Mike Middleton and Madlyon Opperman. Chisholm Trail Chorus’ members currently hail from Temple, Belton, Troy, Waco, Austin, China Springs, Lott, Copperas Cove, Killeen, Harker Heights, Lometa, Bartlett, Rogers and Georgetown. The group presents jazz vocals, choreographed pop tunes and award-winning harmony to the community through weekly education classes and frequent performances throughout Central Texas. Past events include the Bloomin’ Temple Festival, Salado Christmas Stroll, Georgetown Market Days, City of Moody’s 125th anniversary celebration, Waco Marine Corps Banquet and the HEB “Feast of Sharing” banquet. |
