CHISHOLM TRAIL CHORUS OF SWEET ADELINES INTERNATIONAL

FACT SHEET

Chisholm Trail Chorus of Sweet Adelines International is a women's a cappella chorus that presents jazz vocals, choreographed pop tunes and award-winning harmony to the community through weekly education classes and frequent performances throughout Central Texas.

The chorus, directed by Carol Scherer, is comprised of Central Texas women from Temple, Belton, Troy, Waco, China Springs, Lott, Copperas Cove, Killeen, Harker Heights, Lometa, Bartlett, Rogers and Georgetown.

We honor our active duty military and veterans through performances

·         Prisoners of War-Missing in Action Remembrance ceremony in Woodway, September 2004

·         Marine Corps Birthday Banquet in Waco, November 2003

·         Sunrise Rotary Club's holiday party at the Texas State Veteran's Home in Temple, December 2002 & 2003

·         Temple Chamber of Commerce Military Appreciation Luncheon, August 2002

 

Elementary, middle and high school music programs

·         Bel Canto Quartet, as chorus representatives, gave performances at Rogers Elementary School and Killeen Elementary School, 2006-2007

·         Periodically, we invite musical groups from area schools to perform during our annual shows. Financial contributions are made to their programs to promote music education among our community's youth.

 

We support the arts and business through memberships

·         Temple Chamber of Commerce

·         KNCT-FM Founder’s Club in Killeen

 

Award-winning music

·         The chorus was founded in 1982 and competed regionally for the first time in 1983 in Dallas and won the Best Small Chorus award. Since then, we have placed 2nd overall (in 1992); 3rd (in 1990, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998 and 2006); 4th (in 1986, 1988, 1994, 1996 and 2001); and 5th overall (in 1989, 2003 and 2005).

CHORUS TRIVIA

·        Chisholm Trail Chorus' charter was issued on Feb. 16, 1982.

·        Over the years, some chorus members have traveled to Russia, Denmark, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Wales, Italy, Germany, England, Ireland and Scotland as representatives of Chisholm Trail Chorus and the region's Ambassador Chorus.

·        The chorus has had three directors in its 25-year history: Nancy Carter (1981 - 1996); Janie Macchiaroli (1996 - 1997); and Carol Scherer (1997 - present).
