About us
The Timbertones Chorus is an all men's choral group that meets
to sing and enjoy music written in the barbershop style.
What is barbershop music?
Barbershop music is "a cappella" four-part harmony
that is thrilling for the listeners and singers when a chorus of voices achieves
over- and undertones by matching notes and voice. When the choir is in harmony,
there is a "ringing" in
the air.
Why sing barbershop music?
We sing barbershop music to experience enjoyment of performing in
the four-part barbershop style and to see an audience smile and
tap their toes.
Hire us
Thinking of a complete
chorus performance? Or a two-song serenade by a quartet?
For
your entertainment pleasure, consider hiring the Timbretones, or
our entertaining Barbershop Quartet, Late Harvest.
Our fee is modest and negotiable. Contact us,
or check out our Serenades page.

Use what talents you possess: the woods would be very silent if no
birds sang there except those that sang best. (Henry Van Dyke)
Are you looking for a relaxing evening?
You will enjoy sharing weekly with the chorus and in social activities
after practices.
What if I have never sung?
We spend a portion of each practice reviewing basics. The director
teaches the choir how to sing in unison. You will learn the proper way to stand,
how to shape your throat and mouth and how to follow a choral director. Other
qualities of performance are taught to increase the musicality of the music.
Would you like to stretch your abilities?
Besides singing and learning with the choir, you can join a quartet. The choir
and quartets enjoy taking part in contests, shows and community entertaining,
which helps you to assess your skills.
There are leadership opportunities.
You’ll find opportunities as a chapter leader, music director,
teacher, or coach. You can find satisfaction helping with chapter activities
or helping others develop in their hobby.
Join us today!
The chorus is waiting to meet you and play together by having fun,
learning, singing lively songs and socialising.
Our directors
Musical Director - Paul Hunter
Our director brings a wealth of knowledge, excitement and enthusiasm
to our chapter. As an experienced barbershop singer for over 22
years, and the director of the Timbretones for 9 years, Paul strives
to bring out the very best in every member of the chorus. He helps
develop the members singing skills from relaxation and posture
through vocal production, range expansion, ear training and the
understanding of rhythm. He gently teaches the members of the chorus these
mechanics of good barbershop sound. He has been trained by many excellent
barbershop teachers and has had a week of training to sharpen his
skills in directing barbershop choruses.
Assistant Director - Paul Gunning
Paul Gunning has been a member of SPEBSQSA since 1984. He has held
all executive positions in various choruses and has been a show chairmen
several times. He has been a member of the Kelowna, Penticton and
Vernon choruses at various times and is currently the Membership
Vice President for the Vernon Timbretones Chorus. He has the honour
of creating the original name of the Vernon chorus - “Timbretones”.
He has sung all parts and is currently singing tenor, but prefers
bass. In the past, he was Evergreen District Area Counselor for Kelowna,
Vernon, Penticton and the Prince George choruses for two years.
Our 60-year old, single, semi-retired co-director drives 100 km's
from Chase to attend chorus rehearsal every week. He has acting experience
playing “Lord Dudley” in a three-act play called “Play
On.” He sees himself as the ultimate “ham” and loves
being on stage. He is a showman.
