The First Capital Barbershop Chorus has been based in Langley,
British Columbia for over 30 years and has grown to over 70 members from all walks of life; many with no musical training, but all who enjoy a cappella
harmonies. Our group has won music awards and international recognition for their charitable contributions, as well as praise from the thousands of people who
have enjoyed their inspiring shows. We belong to a world-wide association, the Barbershop Harmony
Society. In fact, our organization's motto is Keep the Whole World Singing!
The First Capital Barbershop Chorus rehearses every week and competes
annually on the regional level with the Evergreen District, and at a local level in Evergreen District
's Division I. Within our chorus are the traditional 4 part harmony quartets.

What is barbershop?
Barbershop is a four-part,
close-harmony, unique style of singing done without musical accompaniment (a cappella). The songs we sing often date back to the 1890s to 1990s; however, we also sing contemporary songs
that lend themselves to the barbershop style.
As a member of our chapter you will sing in one of four vocal parts, depending
upon your vocal range: tenor, lead, baritone or bass. Music is provided to all members, and learning CDs and/or tapes with your part are made available so you can sing learn
at home or in your car. It makes the whole process incredibly easy.
To join the First Capital Barbershop Chorus, you don't need to be a trained
singer! All we ask is that you love to sing and can hold your part as you sing in four-part harmony.
What else does barbershop mean?
It means performance
We don't just sing for ourselves! Each year we stage one or more formal shows, plus
accept numerous performances throughout the year for community and charity events in the Lower Mainland. The chorus sings every year at our Society's sponsored competitions,
along with choruses from BC, Alberta, Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

It means fellowship
Perhaps the biggest reward of singing with the First Capital
Barbershop Chorus is the fun and fellowship each member experiences. By sharing the common bond of barbershop singing, this chapter
brings men of all ages together from all walks of life. Whether young or old, rich or poor, barbershop is the unique thread that delivers a special camaraderie
found in no other recreational endeavor.
Barbershop is an international hobby shared by over 30,000 men and their
families worldwide! Barbershop is sung in 52 countries, and if you attend an International Barbershop Convention, you'll find yourself singing with men literally
from all around the globe.
