For Men's Eyes OnlyChordial Invitation is the Kelowna, British Columbia Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society.
We hold rehearsals and auditions at 7:00 pm every Monday evening and YOU are Chordially Invited to pay us a visit. Please note our next rehearsal is scheduled for this coming Monday at The Water Street Centre located at 1360 Water Street in Kelowna. Men of all ages are welcome and we hope to see you then. ![]() If you enjoy singing, want to hone your singing skills and would like to experience the joy of ringing chords in the unique close knit accapella style that characterizes barbershop harmony, this is definitely for you. Learn about our hobby, our chapter and the society. Join us for an evening of fun, fellowship and song. Although we tend to sing "The Old Songs", the one's with a solid melody upon which to build the chords, our society's membership does include a growing number of young talented singers.
To illustrate the point, Chordial Invitation is proud to have sponsored three young men from Kelowna Secondary School to be part of a unique musical experience. They along with other youth from across Canada formed the Cross Canada Chorus. This chorus performed in the International Youth Chorus Festival, just one of the activities in the Society's Mid Winter Convention held in Tampa, Florida from January 26 to 30, 2010. The Cross Canada Chorus participants also received assistance through Sing Canada Harmony a registered Canadian charity that promotes singing amoung youth by provding scholarships and related support thanks to the generosity of people like you. A tax receipt is but one of the benefits derived from making a contribution to Sing Canada. Chordial Invitation continues its Partner in Caring initiatives to help charitable organizations. For example, in May 2010 chorus members along with Late Harvest Helped Variety (the Children's Charity) Help Kids. In December 2010, Chordial Invitation lent a helping hand to the Sally Ann by staffing a kettle location for two days, one each in Kelowna and West Kelowna. At day's end, the chorus assembled around the kettle and enticed passers-by to contribute by performing a Christmas repertoire. A certificate of appreciation from Sally Ann indicated that our efforts added over $550.00 to their campaign to support families in our community. We also continue with our regular outreach program of performing at senior's residences to bring a little music and harmony into their lives. We are also proud to be home base for Late Harvest; the senior quartet champions from the spring 2008 division contest. Based on the audience response to our November 2005 show Barbershop and Brass - a time to remember, the chorus joined forces with A Day Late and a Dollar Short, the Okangan Music Association's 2006 Bluegrass Band of the Year to present a follow-up performance on Sunday May 27, 2007. The show entitled Barbershop and Bluegrass - turn your radio on, combined the close knit accapella harmony characteristic of the barbershop style with hand clapping, toe tapping bluegrass tunes. Barrie Clarke acted as our "radio host" and as he said, "This is Barrie Clark coming to you live and on location from the Mary Irwin Theatre. I’ll be your host for this very special broadcast entitled Barbershop and Bluegrass. We have an exciting show lined up for you today. We’ll do some reminiscing, spin a tale or two and hear some good old fashioned harmony… so please turn your radio on". To the audience's delight, Late Harvest also added their distinctive style to the performance. On May 16, 2009 at the Kelowna Community Theatre, Chordial Invitation and the Kelowna City Band joined forces once again to present Barbershop and Brass - young and foolish again. Special guests included Tanya Bakala and the Mission City Dance Centre, the Kelowna Stage Band and our own Late Harvest quartet. The concert featured a potpourri of instrumental and vocal music and dance. Proceeds from events like these are used to further our "Partner in Caring" initiatives.
